DESCRIPTION Applied Silicone Corporation PN 40096 Medical Grade Primer for Metals and Plastics contains 10% moisture-reactive silanes in xylene that improve adhesion of silicone elastomers to some substrates such as metals, ceramics and plastics. This product is well-suited for coupling Applied Liquid Silicone Rubbers, High Consistency Rubbers, and Adhesives to metals, fabrics, plastics, ceramics, and other substrates. Special features include: • Water consistency
for easy handling

APPLICATIONS The surface to be primed
should be thoroughly cleaned and allowed to dry. The primer is then applied
by brushing, dipping, wiping, or spraying. A thin film will give the best
results. Thickness can be controlled by thinning the solution in aromatic
or aliphatic organic solvents. The primed substrate must be exposed to
atmospheric moisture immediately after application for thirty to sixty minutes to
induce evaporation of the solvent and to cure the silane coupling
agents. Prolonged exposure greater than two hours will reduce effectiveness.
A minimum of thirty percenty atmospheric relative humidity is recommended for full
cure, and therefore, maximum adhesion to substrate. Air exposure of the
primer should occur immediately after application to the clean surface
to be primed. If immediate exposure to air containing at least thirty percent relative
humidity does not occur, the resulting primed film may result in poor adhesion
to both the substrate and to subsequent silicone material added to the
primed substrate.

PRECAUTIONS A Material Safety Data Sheet
(MSDS) is supplied with each shipment. The primer hydrolyzes quickly
upon contact with atmospheric moisture. Keep in tightly sealed
containers and avoid exposing surface of unused material to ambient air.
Purging containers with dry nitrogen before resealing is recommended. The
dispersion contains the solvent xylene which is a flammable liquid and
a health hazard. The dispersion should not come into contact with eyes,
skin, or clothing. Do not breathe the vapor. Use the dispersion
with adequate ventilation. Keep away from open flame, sources of sparks,
and heat. When transferring dispersion, electrically ground all vessels.
The user is urged to be familiar with the properties of xylene.
